Addabbo Seeks New Expansion for New York Gambling
New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo pushes again to expand the betting to New York, which, among other things, allows sports stadiums to legally go beyond athletics. In recent years, Addabbo has been one of the strongest advocates for expanding multi-level games.
For most users, the newest Addabbo Bill S7536 has three relevant sections. Two of these aspects are directly related to sports gambling. Both can be a serious deal for betting lovers in New York.
If signed into law in its present state, the law would enable qualified sports centers in the state to have casinos with closed gambling kiosks. Among the sites that may qualify for this right, there are places such as:
- Yankee Stadium
- Madison Park
- Barclays Center
In some cases, alliances already exist that can make these spaces a reality. For example, the New York Knicks already have alliances with Caesars and BetMGM. New York Liberty and Brooklyn Nets also see FanDuel as sponsors.
However, that’s not all Addabbo Bill is going to do when it comes to sports gambling. VLT lotteries and OTBs may also sum sports gambling kiosks. Addabbo talks about his big sports gambling project in NY.
“Our initial vision that (former) Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo didn’t quite care for was rolling out, over two or three years, racetracks, OTBs, stadiums, arenas, and kiosks. I still want to do that. And hopefully, I can get to work with Gov. [Kathy] Hochul and see that we can expand mobile sports betting to what it really should be in our state,” – noted Addabbo.
2022 Could Be the Pinnacle of Addabbo’s Dreams
He was probably close enough to Addabbo to give it a try. He has been trying to push the expansion of the game in New York in this direction for the third year in a row.
In 2019, he lobbied for a bill that contained the same components, but a shorter parliamentary meeting and Cuomo’s resistance led to his failure. In the past year, the game’s growth took over the challenges posed by the coronavirus, and Cuomo remained stubborn.
This year Cuomo has made its mobile bookmaker very different from the history of Addabbo. In their opinion, online gambling will be carried out through physical gambling establishments within the state and not in government.
The new rule also adds nothing to the jumps that Addabbo would like to see. While being able to offer sports betting to government agencies is one way to maximize profits, Addabbo has something more significant.
Fixed-odds Horse Racing May Appear in New York
In a way, Addabbo wanted to give every licensed gaming operator in New York the ability to have it all. Under his bill, New York will become the 2nd state where horse racing and sports betting offer stable horse racing odds.
Despite being legal in New Jersey, very few bookmakers offer such markets. Large racing games may have game kiosks making them a more popular goal for players. There are four popular horse racing tracks in New York, including Saratoga Downs and Belmont.
It remains unclear to what extent the Addabbo Act will benefit the House of Representatives or Governor Hochul. If this year fails, 2022 could be the best option. As a result, only one item will remain on Addabbo’s list of possible wishes.
