Betsson Exiting the US Market: Closing Its Sportsbook in Colorado
An official spokesperson of the Swedish company announced its plan to shut down its B2C operations in the US by the end of September 2024. For the foreseeable future, Betsson will focus its efforts on its B2B presence in the country. The Betsafe sportsbook is only legal in Colorado, so if you’re a resident of the state with an active account, you have to prepare for the closure. Stay tuned to learn more about that.
History of Betsson in the US
Betsson first announced its plans to enter the US online sports betting market back in 2020 after signing a 10-year partnership agreement with Dostal Alley Casino in Colorado. The initial launch date of its Betsafe app was set for the first half of 2021, but it was pushed back a few times until March 2023, when the platform went live for gamblers across the state.
Betsson even opened a small office in the Centennial State for easier management of its operations there. It carried out several surveys and provided useful US sports handling figures. Unfortunately, the brand was unable to withstand the intense competition in the market, so it made the hard decision to discontinue its B2C offerings by the end of September 2024.
What You Need to Know
No new account registrations will be allowed on the Betsafe app following September 6. If you already have an account, you won’t be able to place any bets after September 16. Most importantly, you have until September 27 to withdraw your funds before the final closure of all gambling accounts on September 30.
For a smooth and effortless transition, we recommend that you withdraw your funds as soon as possible. We advise against waiting until the last few days to do that to help you avoid any possible delays. Betsson is a highly reputable brand in the online gambling industry worldwide, so we generally don’t expect you to face any significant issues.
Alternative Sportsbook in Colorado
In addition to the Betsafe app, a few other platforms have recently exited the Colorado sports betting market, including ClutchBet, Betfred, and Betway. It’s becoming apparent that the US gambling industry is highly competitive, and it takes a lot to stay afloat and flourish under such pressure. While this may appear problematic, there are still plenty of options for gamblers from the state.
You can choose between popular brands such as Caesars, BetMGM, and bet365, to name a few. All of them operate under valid licenses and provide a safe gambling environment for their clients.
