Entain Reduces Pay Gap in a Step Towards Gender Equality
Entain is a company keen on a diversity and inclusion policy. The company continues to reduce the gender pay difference within its operation. They have detailed progress on this already. This FSTE100 betting and gaming group clarified this in its published report on the Gender Pay Gap of 2021.
Entain explained that the gap in their operations has reduced to 5.3% from 7.1%. The new figure is the median hourly pay gap between female and male employees. By contrast, little progress has been made on the mean pay gap in hourly wages; it slightly rose to 16.2% from a previous value of 15%.
A Word With the CEO
Jette Nygaard-Andersen is Entain’s CEO. She is a Danish business executive who was appointed to her current working position back in 2021 while previously being appointed as a non-executive director of Entain in 2019. She is considered to be the first CEO of a UK-registered betting company in history.
Before joining Entain, she worked for the Swedish media company Modern Times Group for around 16 years.
She noted that 54% of the company’s retail workers are women. She further explained that: “At Entain, our vision is to create a ‘best place to work’ where our colleagues feel valued, respected, and engaged, and to ensure that this is reflected in the way they are rewarded.”
She stated that the firm’s median hourly pay gap is substantially lower than the national average. She was also pleased to say that it reflects gender equality in their retail business.
Breaking Down the Details
The breakdown is done in four tiers. It showed that 39.1% of its upper-tier employees are females. However, the value stood at 52.3% in the upper mid-section. In comparison, the lower quartile and lower-mid quartile had the majority of female workforces, with women accounting for 57% and 55.4% of the total employees, respectively. Both stood at 56.7% the previous year.
Furthermore, 69% of the company’s male employees got a bonus overall. This is in comparison to the 62.8% their female employees received. Both numbers showed a significant rise above the 2020 figures of 40% and 40.9%, but this segment still has a clear gap.
Plans for Further Studies on Pay Equality
Entain intends to carry out further studies on pay equality. They plan to achieve this through their recently launched EnTrain initiative to strengthen girls’ and women’s access to technology. The initiative also wants to help females study more and pursue a career in tech.
The group has already launched its internal network for its female employees called ‘Women@Entain.’ It is a platform that will allow them to share learning experiences while leveraging employee feedback. This feedback will be via conducting ‘listening groups’ and its annual ‘people survey’ with female employees.
In the CEO’s final statement, putting policies and programs like Women@Entain and EnTrain in place will help them progress in the journey. She said that the inclusion, equity, and diversity approach is vital to the company’s goal of revolutionizing gaming and betting interactive entertainment.
