Nevada’s Gaming Market Revenue Makes a Strong Comeback
On February 27, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported that January brought $1.43 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR), the second-highest monthly total ever, following last December’s $1.46 billion. The statistics show a 12.5% year-on-year increase, while the Las Vegas Strip is finally ending its six-month streak of profit decreases.
A Successful January for the Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas scored $840 million in gross gaming revenue this January, a 22.4% increase from last year. It was the Strip’s third-best month, following the two previous records in December 2023 ($905 million) and December 2024 ($881.2 million).
Despite the good revenue, downtown Las Vegas showed a 2% decrease on a YoY basis, while the locals’ market remained unchanged. Thanks to them, Las Vegas’s profits have always been stable, no matter the Strip’s difficulties. However, both are still going strong – downtown keeps a +3% for the current fiscal year, and the locals’ market is +8%, the highest among all US markets.
A Month Marked by Baccarat Gains
If we examine NGCB’s monthly report more closely, we’ll notice that the revenue was greatly influenced by baccarat, whose GGR in January was $214.2 million. Its performance has been variable since last year, which has caused major swings in the Las Vegas Strip’s overall profits.
Over the last year, baccarat brought $1.48 winnings to the Strip, while craps showed +11% YoY. Roulette also has an increase of +35%, with overall table games revenue estimated at $415.6 million.
Positive Start for Northern Markets and Sports Betting
Nevada’s northern markets also started the year strong. Winter months are usually problematic for the region due to unpredictable weather patterns. Despite that, Reno topped the charts with a $67 million GGR. Numbers show a 2.5% increase on a year-on-year basis. For Sparks, there’s a growth of +3%, while Carson Valley reported +7%. Elko County also scored a GGR of $32.6 million, followed by South Lake Tahoe’s $22.2 million.
Just like baccarat, sports betting in Nevada has been volatile lately. However, 2025 marked a good start with a $72.2 million GGR, which is 12% up from last year. The total revenue from mobile betting was $42.7 million, showing an impressive 42% increase. On the Strip, $17 million out of $33.6 million came from mobile betting.
