Scotland’s Official PFA Calls for an End to Discrimination in Gambling
Michelle Evans of PFA Scotland said that now is the time to remove the stigma surrounding gambling addiction and provide comprehensive support and infrastructure for athletes at risk.
Communications Director Evans also cares for the organization’s 1,200 members through the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and supports train football players about the risks of betting.
According to Evans
Evans knows that first-person experiences and stories are most damaging when young athletes hear about the risks of gambling addiction and hope to continue to lay the foundation for those who struggle.
Evans co-founded the Professional Sports Risk Management Advisory Council EPIC, the world’s first body to research and take action on the risk of betting-related damage for sports stars or professional athletes.
Michelle Evans, a former sports reporter, said that he thinks betting and addiction is taboo, not speaking about his mental fitness.
“It’s such a hidden thing and there’s a lot of pride and a lot of embarrassment around it, so I think the more we talk about it and the more we make people realise that a lot of people fall into that trap the better it is and hopefully more people come forward and get help.”
A global team of renowned organizations representing professional athletes, esports professionals, and betting business heads who come together year-round to share their best exercises, best practices, exchange views, and advance policy through their expertise in the game and playground design and esports, honesty, athlete wellbeing, and life adventures.
It is brought together by the leading betting harm reduction consulting firm EPIC Risk Management, which hires several current and past professional sports stars to provide global training programs aimed at preventing people who exercise four times more often than those who do not.
Evans believes that pooling and sharing information and support will only support those who need them.
Sharing of Knowledge and Resources
Spokesman Patrick Thistle mentioned that he looks forward to joining other board members and giving their information and practice shortly.
In his opinion, one of the best things about EPIC is the life adventure that benefits them; he believes it is great not only for betting but also for treating other addictions and mental wellness. He thinks people sharing their practices will benefit.
Evans first met EPIC when she brought in the company’s delivery manager and past expert rugby player Mark Potter to Scottish rugby clubs to speak about an addiction that pushed him to the brink of suicide.
She mentioned that she has never seen such a quiet group of children as you can hear the flies in this room. Everyone was being very quiet as Mark was telling his story of how he got into the betting and how it cost him his life.
She added that she can teach them, however, it’s a very different experience if they learn from someone who has been through that.
