World Poker Tour Maryland Live Postponed Due to COVID-19 Concerns
The pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the realization of live events. Now it has been announced that the next stop of the WPT scheduled for September has been postponed.
The Maryland Live! casino was going to be the scene of several tournaments of the franchise between September 15 and 28 with a Main Tour that was going to start on the 24 with a buy-in of US $ 3,500 and the US $ 1,500,000 guaranteed.
The news was released both on the official World Poker Tour website and through the casino’s social networks, and they did not specify a possible date for its execution in the future.
The postponement of the World Poker Tour that was scheduled for September 15-28 at Maryland Live is not a great sign.
Delta Blitzing the Country
COVID-19 seems to be the main reason of the postponement of the World Poker Tour. Nevertheless, the postponement of the Battle of Malta for the second consecutive year is indeed another bad sign for European poker.
With this, there are already two stops that the brand has had to suspend due to COVID-19 after the cancellation of the WPT bestbet Scramblie earlier this month.
It is the second stop on the World Poker Tour to announce its cancellation this month. In early August, bestbet Jacksonville casino stated that it would be postponing the bestbet Scramble that was due to occur these days.
The official calendar contemplates, as the next appointment to be carried out, an event in Tokyo between September 12 and 20, although it is a tournament only by previous qualification and invitation. After that, the action should resume with the WPT Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida, to be played on 26th November, just after the WSOP.
The curtain should close for 2021 with the Five Diamond World Poker Classic on fifteen December in Las Vegas. For its part, the WPT World Online Championships are taking place at partypoker, and the WPT Borgata Online Poker Open is also scheduled in the same room but only for US players.
Five Weeks Until the WSOP
While in Las Vegas, all preparations for the WSOP are in progress from 30th September, and many casinos are announcing their tournament plans for the world championship, the WPT has to accept another setback. After the WPT bestbet Scramble in Jacksonville had to be postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19, the WPT Maryland followed suit.
The WPT World Online Championship is currently running online on partypoker; in the USA, there will also be the online WPT Online Borgata Poker Open on the partypoker US Network in September. Live will not be played live until November at the WPT Seminole Rock’n’Roll Poker Open and then in December at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas. They wanted to fill up the calendar, but currently, another live stop this year seems rather unlikely to occur. However, whether there will be another change is yet to be seen!
